I had an interesting discussion awhile back with family members of mine. The overall consensus, or vibe I was picking up was that;

It is very hard to make any money (eg. text ads must pay 1/2cents a click at most) unless your like ebay, or amazon or something.

Yet at the same time they were talking about how everything is going online, from the traditional paper formats.

Anyone else experience the same thing?

Everything we do is invisible. It's all in our heads so there is nothing outsiders can see. It's wonderful. I can't remember where it came from but there is an old saying about "Getting rich in the dark" that I think fits perfectly.

When I talk to regular people about the web, they think that many of the sites out there, even the big ones, are put online for free, for nonprofit. I have to explain to my mother that many sites make money through advertising, and that if she searches for something on Google, to pay attention to the ads on the right hand side of the screen, that is one of the ways Google makes money.
