Prelaunch mailing list solution?

Im trying to find a easy simple solution to create a mailling list so people may subscribe to be notified when the website is launched.

One option is i can use a wordpress plugin but im unsure if that would be up to date and would aso require installing wordpress.

It's free, and I've used it to dispatch out (opt-in!!!) newsletters to lists exceeding 1,000,000 names. It's written in Perl, so you don't have any of the timeout issues that you face with PHP programs, and you don't even need a mysql database. It's small, ugly, and limited in what it does, but what it's written to accomplish it does extremely well.
