How long before Google recognizes your backlinks?

I've been building backlinks here lately through link exchanges and I'm just curious as to how long it normally takes for Google to recognize your backlinks by doing the link:www.mysite.com google search?

Well... setup a Google Alert for link:www.example.com and you'll see them finding themw ithin a day or too... how long until they're helping though... who knows... the next update probably.

Google has always shown only a sample of the links coming into your site. These links are updated in the search results every 3 - 6 weeks. Even though google only shows a small sample, this does not mean that google doesn't count the other backlinks when displaying search results. Google updates its search result pages for standard searches continuously, and these search results take into account all links that google has found....
