I'd like a custom Wordpress Plugin built. I know I've come across freelance sites before, but I can't remember any URLs. What sites are good for this? Does anyone have any tips for hiring programmers?

Tip: Don't pay 100% up front ;)

There are Indian programmers who will work for $5 an hour and have MSN messenger. Find one (then after they've finished working for you tell us their details).

Would you recommend using a site like Scriptlance or elance over posting a request on Digital Point?

I wouldn't bother with Scriptlance/Elance, or any similar service.

You get what you pay for - it's that simple. Also, as selfish as it may sound, I wouldn't release my programmers' details. It's hard enough for them to find time to work for me.

One thing when you are dealing with specialised software -- vBulletin plug-ins or Wordpress scripts -- is that it is best to directly approach developers who already specialise in this. All that means is going to the biggest development communities/forums for that software and posting a job request. The more money you are willing to pay, the better.

I have a full time programmer, but he doesn't specialise in either, so it would take time for him to learn about Wordpress and figure out how things work. The same could be said of most programmers you pull off of elance.

I agree. I have one or two programmers that I usually turn to for general development work -- but recently, when I needed to find someone familiar with vBulletin, I went straight to vBulletin.org. It's definitely more cost-effective.

wordpress should have detailed instructions about it. Have you checked it. You can take part in the forum. Sure someone will help you.
