I just launched my blog and I was just checking it out in google. If you type in google "random jabber" it's the first in the results but the description of the site is drawn from the footer. What's up with that?

If you type in "Deron Sizemore" in the search you'll see that the site is #1 also but the description is a little more informative with information about myself.

What can I do different here?

Put the keywords up higher (not that anyone searches for "Random Jabber") or try a meta description tag.

Yeah, no one will search for "random jabber", I was just curious. I guess I was under the assumption that no matter what keyword someone typed in, if the homepage of my site came up in the results, the same description would be shown regarless of the keyword that was used in the search.

Google will usually use a snippet of text from that actual page that contains the terms searched for, to give the searcher a preview of what context you are using the term in.

I'm guessing "random jabber" or something close was placed somewhere in your footer.

Yep, you'd be correct. I have it in my copyright line.

Hah if you type it in without quotes this WPF page is the first result.

I'd recommend including a description line, which includes the name of the site somewhere near the top of the page.

You aren't the only one having problems... Check out Baldy's official site:
