Now I have one too.

http://www.discountpowertools.net/

I plan to open more in the future. Its a completely hands off way to make money, just start it, do some promotion, and let it be.

Chris, on your new power tools site you link to your homepage using the anchor text "Power Tools Home". Is there any SEO reason behind this?

Also I am getting page not found when I click buy from amazon.

Definitely. Its most keyword rich than just "Home."

This is frequently offered advice, I'm suprised you've never heard it before.

Me too, but if I refresh a couple times it works.

I thought that you tried to link to your index page without home though, and just with your keywords. Like "Power Tools"?

Hmm, seems that the text link works but the button link does not.

I changed the button method to get from post and it works.

Another little thing I noticed... there are some background image problems when you try an view a product that has no picture. Also, if there are no search results. For instance, type in "asdjhasdjh" as your search and you'll see what I mean.

Also, are you only listing a maximum of 20 page results? I've been trying to figure out a approach which will be best for search engine spidering.

Edit - Sorry, didn't realise there was another thread devoted to this.

I fixed the bg image thing, but what is so odd about the searches?

Sorry, I meant if there are not any search results then that also caused the problem with the background image to occur. It's fine now though.

I'm thinking about doing my own AWS site. How hard was it to make? Did you need any special software, or did you code it yourself?

Perhaps you should write up an article.

Just noticed...

"Why pay huge prices are brick and mortar retailers"

... "are" should be "at" ?

Well, for me, it's been a bit hard trying to figure out how to parse the data and format it.

I had Dan (GCT13) do the coding/integration with Amazon. I edited his work to make it db driven and I wrote a little php spider to build a database of amazon categories. I'm thinking about cranking out a few more of these sites.

I've already had good crawl the homepage. I also had someone pretend to be Google.

What do you mean someone pretend to be Google? They spoofed their user agent? And why would they do that?

And you figured that out because... you referenced the IP?

sorry that was probably me. i installed a firebird plugin that changes your useragent. i forgot to turn it off when i was done checking how a spam program worked.

Newbie question: Do you store all contents you extracted from Amazon into your database or do you store ASINs only in your site database?

Thanks

Chris

Amazon content is all cached and refreshed periodically. The only thing stored in the DB are category ids.

http://www.kissitmakeitbetter.com/

Check out the marketplace section.

I'm going to do this with all my sites. For the survival site I'll do first aid kits, tents, knives, boots, compasses, whatever. For the fitness site I'll use all their weightloss supplements, running shoes, and other fitness sporting goods. My orienteering site will use some of both. etc etc

Amazon now sells Condoms (http://www.kissitmakeitbetter.com/market/68/)

I'm planning on doing the same thing, with their new Health and Personal Care store and my weight loss sites.

Its kinda funny if you look at the Condoms page. You'd think that the baby picture at the top left would be birth control enough ;)

Sweet, that'll be a nice fit for the site.

Check those links -> I can't sort or paginate.
