www.physicsforums.com gets $100 a month on the forum of 10,000 threads, for each of 15 text links at the bottom of page page. If you have a popular forum I recommend trying this out, and soon I will be buying some backward links...

Hmmm... not sure about this. It's just a feeling I have, that something like this could go tits-up very rapidly. Ideally I would still think it's better to build backlings from varied sources.

I suppose it's a good initial investment in a site though, to instantly have PR and traffic. Then that gives you time to get your site supporting itself, instead of having to pay for it.

... Just thinking out loud. Haven't really ever given it much thought.

In my opinion it's a bit risky putting your links on there. Your effectively buying PR, although I can't say google would notice.

that makes u need to make at least 200 bucks a month in revenue.. if your buying pr..

Possibly more. I don't think googlebot is likely to crawl all 10,000 threads every month. So I would have thought you're paying for a good few that aren't even going to be noticed by google or contribute anything. By the time google has found your link in all 10,000 threads you could have paid anything from $100 to $300.

Though, off-set that against the cost of a "potential" listing in the Yahoo directory and it may be worth it?

Shawn's probably the best person to comment, as he's done it. It seems to have worked ok for him, at least for the time being.

Physics Forums doesn't transfer anything more than PR6.

I'm wanting a PR of 8 or above.

Edit: Reasons are because I want to get my new site launched on valentines day into the top three google listings for music videos, which is searched for 8000 times a day. My domain is perfect for this keyword as well: http://www.music-videos.ws

Can someone tell me how I can get such a high PR?

Shawn

That won't happen.

Not even if I buy loads of links in loads of places? Or buy a link on a PR 8 site?

8 is very hard to achieve.

Would buying a link of a PR9 site such as PHPBB.com get me a PR 8?

Shawn

No. Even if you could afford it.

PR 8 by Valentines day? Impossible :) Maybe valentines day in about 5 years if you work hard! Sorry to sound so bleak, but as Chris says, a PR of 8 is extremely hard to attain.

Not by valentines day. I am starting to get links then. That is the day the site opens.

phpBB has a PR10, wouldn't you be able to get a PR8 (or high seven at least?) through that anyone?

PR10... wow... Higher than yahoo was on last check...

Not surprising really considering every phpBB board links back to the phpBB "mother" site. Depending on the how many other links there were, it would be possible to get a PR8.

How much do you reckon it will cost per month?

physics forums are coming up a PR7 on my tool bar. that's why it's a month to month proposition paying for these links.

Apollo

also, $100 per month is relatively cheap for a PR8 considering I was quoted $495 per month for a sponsored text link from this site http://www.eslcafe.com

I didn't look at eslcafe when I made my last post but I see now that it has also dropped a level and is now showing a PR7. It was an 8 when I enquired about placeing my link there.

Do you really need a PR 8? It gets exponentially harder to go up in PR. Most webmasters can't achieve a PR of 6! Very few have PR 7s.

It is 8 at the month.
Wow, that's a good way to make a revenue.

Very true. My highest PR, most trafficked sites are also my two oldest.

Would it really be worth the money if you are on a tight scheduel?

Very true. It is worth noting that the PageRank scale is supposedly logarithmic, meaning a PR6 is ten times better than PR5, PR7 is ten times PR6, etc.
