Site redesign question

I plan to do files reorganization on my site. Want to categorize pages and put every category in dependent folder.
By doing this is that going to drop site on search engines? If Google has indexed pages how much damage will make if those pages change urls ?

Any thoughts on this?

Put up 301 redirects and you should mitigate MOST of the problems.

However you should expect some traffic loss, atleast for a period of time.

Changing any external incoming links (and of course internal ones) to point to the new URLs would help a bunch.

And make sure this is ABSOLUTELY how you want it, you shouldn't make a habit of doing a URL change frequently, ideally you'll never want to have to do it again.
