Whats the difference between Behavioral, Blind, Direct & Vertical adbvertising networks.

Sorry, probably a dumb question.

Also, and other good resources like this forum out there for publishers?
Thanks.

Behavioral
Have you ever searched around Amazon.com, then when you visit the front page you see books and products related to what you had been searching for? That's behavioral targeting, which, if you get it right, can really work out well since you'd be showing ads/products/etc to a user based on what they seem interested in and the chance of them clicking or buying increases.

Blind
Google and Yahoo are considered blind advertising networks, since your ad can be shown anywhere (especially with the Content Network) yet you have no idea what sites they're being shown on. As opposed to something like Quigo which tells you what sites your ads have appeared on and gives you options to buy specifically on a particular site or sites.

Direct
This would be, I believe, going in to a straight advertising partnership. If ESPN wanted to show ads on your sports site, they'd go to you directly instead of through a 3rd party advertising network. Although that's just my best guess on that one.

Vertical
Vertical is relation based. If Chris wants people to visit his online literature site, he would try to go the route of getting his ad(s) on other literature sites in order for a better 'conversion' of visitors specifically interested in his site. It probably wouldn't be as effective if his ad were showing on a site about motorcycles.
