Alexa now displays:

Geographical data.
Site's traffic rank in other countries.
Reach percentages.

Some neat changes:

Like all Alexa data, take it with a grain of salt.

That is very interesting and the geographical numbers could be very useful for some things depending on how accurate it is.

For my sites the US percentage seems very low compared to numbers I have collected myself. Anyone else see the same thing?

The visitors by country data is waaaaay off on my sites compared to what Google Analytics reports. Not just a little off, but missed the mark so badly that they might as well have just picked some random countries and numbers.

For me as well. Analytics shows 52.75% US for me while Alexa shows 31.9% US

I would guess this is due to a very heavy skew of less toolbars per users in the United States than most other countries. It would be interesting if other people would post their numbers to see if the skew is consistent.

Probabloy did - it seems to be the base methodology for arriving at the ranking figure :)

Alexa has some pretty messed up (and funny) numbers for my site as well. Like others it is WAY under reporting my U.S. traffic percentage (38.8% instead of the 61.6% being reported by Google Analytics). On the funnier side the top ten countries Alexa reports for my Alexa ranking are:

Cyprus 17,813
Palestinian Territory 22,705
Bahrain 23,870
Venezuela 30,791
Vietnam 32,513
Serbia and Montenegro 34,373
Croatia 37,579
Iran 43,210
Mexico 44,328
Saudi Arabia 48,775

I guess my rankings are better in countries where porn sites and over promoted social networking sites are blocked and people are left with sites of scientific or educational "merit". :D

Thanks for the numbers Ken.

Interesting to note comparing my site (which is a general entertainment site, with a completely different audience than Kens):

Alexa / Analytics = Percent
38.8 / 61.6 = 63.0%
31.9 / 52.75 = 60.5%

This isn't much data, but if the skew is really due to a smaller percentage of US visitors having the toolbar than other countires, you would expect a somewhat constant factor between Alexa's numbers and true numbers, which appears true for at least these two sites.

Maybe more people could post their ratios so that we can see if we can find some sort of trend.

Sounds interesting. Here's the some data for one of my websites:

United States

Analytics: 86.91%

United Kingdom
Alexa: 10.6%
Analytics: 6.16%

Canada
Alexa: 4.8%
Analytics: 1.74%

Australia
Alexa: 1.9%
Analytics: 2.79%

Alexa seems to report 87.4% of your US traffic MaxS, which is quite a bit higher than mine or Ken's. This could be because your site has a much different audience than our sites or perhaps your data sample is small. The site my data is from receives about 80k uniques/day so its a fairly large sample.

Yea, you definitely have more data to look at. The site I pulled that data from receives about 15k uniques a day. It attracts a teen/young audience.

Thats still a pretty substantial sample size and my audience is very similar to yours.

I'm pulling about 11k unique visitors per day, but a lot of mine are in controlled computer environments where Alexa wouldn't be allowed.
