SEO Links for Images? Is it worth it...

So for one of my image hosting sites I got to thinking if it was worth it.

Right now the images (full size) are loaded like:
sitename.com/dir/showthepic.php?img=filenamewhatever.jpg

I was going to change them
sitename.com/showpic-filenamewhatever.html

Would it matter AT ALL? I know in the "olden" days it probably would have but am unaware if it will even help remotely now...

I don’t think it will matter right now, but what I will suggest you to use your keywords in your alt tag of each image it will definetly help you in SEO.
