Im gonna try something i never have before and im wondering if some are worth it or not.

1st Tell a Friend - im gonna add a tell a friend script which is pretty basic.
2nd Get Notified - im thinking of setting up something like ebay where there are no auctions and once there are auctions you get notified.
3rd Content - We know content is king so instead of trying to fill my pocket im just gonna work on just providing a great resource for the user.

Im still debating get notified seems a bit difficult to setup since it will require custom programming. Im not a programmer and just hate doing custom anything.

If something has worked for you please share...

The ideas you're talking about don't seem to be viral. They may help get some traffic, but I wouldn't expect anything major from it.

Certainly those things are worthwhile, but they aren't going to bring in big traffic.

Those things should always be done with any site, but they aren't viral marketing so to speak.

Really viral marketing is a buzz phrase that is as much myth as anything. Successfully sparking a viral buzz around your site is a 1,000,000 shot. Everyone wants it to happen to their site, but the truth is what will cause a viral buzz is mostly random chance. Even the viral marketing campaigns by the big Hollywood and Madison Avenue types with millions of dollars to spend don't often pan out and end up being more of a sniffle than a viral outbreak.

Technically its viral (except the good content one) because you are providing tools for traffic to general more traffic. But your conversion ration will never be above 1 with it.

What really is viral?

99% of the time its stuff that has a widespread appeal; being the way communications flow, the web particularly rewards content you wouldnt see on tv or in a magazine. So, whats gone viral recently? Britney Spears public show last week, and humorous animations derived from it are spreading. Theres also a prank cell phone geo-locator some of you might have seen (if you haven't, your not missing anything.)

Viral traffic can make money; I think it is fair to say that the Million Dollar Homepage was viral. Plenty of other examples exist.
