Fireworks is basically Macromedia's Photoshop. It's a graphics editing program. I never really liked Fireworks much at all. I much prefer Photoshop, but most people don't go with Photoshop because of the price, so they settle for Fireworks or Paint Shop Pro which is much cheaper and can do a lot of the same stuff. You can also slice web pages up with Fireworks like you would in ImageReady.

fireworks is ok, I own a copy but it doesnt compare to photoshop cs2. I only bought fireworks because it came as part of a bundle i bought last year from macromedia when I bought flash pro.

I like FW's myself. I use it as my main graphics program. :)

fireworks and photoshop really are for 2 different things. fireworks is really closer to adobe's image ready. it's for building digital graphics - not really for photo editing as it just chokes on large (high resolution) images. but it wasn't designed for that. it excells at building web/mulitmedia interfaces and graphics. personally, i like it better for that then photoshop.

yeah the one thing fireworks does really well is what imageready does really badly :)

that's one thing it does. it's a graphics program with a focus on digital as opposed to print.

I am not at all satisfied with Fireworks. I find it really difficult to work with it. I am using Photoshop for almost every works. But, comparing, both of these softwares have their own positives and negatives.
