i haven't followed this extremely close, but what do you think? end of our livelihoods or overblown paranoia?

the other question i have is, how does this affect non-U.S. internet users?

I don't think it is dead yet, according to the linked to article, a filibuster is being launched to hold up the telecommunications bill unless it includes a network neutrality provision. We need to continue to lobby our senators to support network neutrality and to hold up S.2686 (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:S.2686: ) via a filibuster until it includes a network neutrality provision.

That Slashdot thread disintegrated very quickly, but the initial post was really good. I personally send nice emails to my senators asking them to support any veto S.2686 until it has a network neutrality provision. I think if everybody did the same thing, Congress would start to realize that screwing with this is risking the ire of their constituents. Unlike so many issues, this issue spans the political spectrum and people from across the entire political spectrum are demanding network neutrality. If we simply keep up the pressure congress will cave on this issue and give us what we want.
