You guys see this:

http://www.1000wordpage.com

Of all the million dollar homepage clones this one I think has the most merit. I'm actually considering buying a word. Worst case scenario its a tax writeoff. Best case scenario I get oodles of traffic.

I just blogged about it:

Sorry I didn't catch this sooner. Chris, you may want to barter with them like I did. I was able to get quite the deal in return for a bit of promotion on my end. :)

Yeah, even though it's still kind of a rip, it's at least creative. I wish I had thought of it. I guess I'm just not as creative as I thought, because that's not a hard concept to think up. lol.

If it turns out anything like milliondollarhomepage get ready for tons of spam from copycat sites: "I saw your ad on The Million Dollar Homepage. I'd like to offer you the opportunity to advertise on our REVOLUTIONARY new pixel advertising site..."

I'm still getting several of these per week. :flare:

Do you get much traffic from your milliondollarhomepage pixels?

Yeah, it was worth at least what I paid. Of course it's dropped off quite a bit now.

I don't have the info in front of me right now, but I'll try to remember to post some figures tomorrow.

Bought two. Maybe this idea will take off also.

Well, I looked up my stats for themilliondollarhomepage.com. At it's peak, it was sending me around 300-400 unique clickthroughs per day. It also got my site some media exposure. Most notably I was interviewed by CNBC for a piece they did on MDHP. They showed a few nice screenshots of my site and splashed my URL around a little during the story.

Of course, the traffic has dropped off quite a bit now that the hype has worn down. It's only sending 10-20 uniques per day. It actually may have fallen a little short of directly sending enough visitors to pay for itself, but I think that a lot of the referrals turned into repeat visitors and it's more than paid for itself in that way.

Microsoft is running a contest in Canada that seems to be inspired by the million dollar homepage to promote Xbox Live and the Xbox 360.

Bit expensive isn't it? 100 euro for one word and that's the cheap price? Yikes :)

If they're able to get enough attention on the page (through press, and forums like these) and you end up with enough traffic... then maybe it is.

Of course it depends on your ability to convert that traffic into leads, sales or ad clicks - unless you make your money off of CPM ads.

Plus, there is the potential for a nice anchor text link.

Absolutely.

(At first I thought they weren't direct links, but went through a script first which might prevent them from being indexed as links. I was wrong, apparently. :p )

I see at least seven of yours up there, Chris. ;)

no fears of being seen as a farm page?

If search engines pick up on it they might decide to devalue links from it.. but since it's only 1000 links on this page, I doubt they're going to bother with it.

You're not going to be punished for having a link there.

Plus, if anything it'd just be Google,. Yahoo & MSN aren't nearly as proactive in that sort of thing, so you'd still get the help on those engines.

You know its going to get a decent PR too with all the blog mentions.

looks like today sometime they changed their link format to be straight html links (ie you get PR if they don't get banned).
