On Google Tool bar, is page rank of 1 more important than 10?

Also, on this graph http://www.websitepublisher.net/articleimages/kei.jpg, does it correspond with the google rank with the smaller number being the more important or the other way around?

Edit: ok, I think I know now but correct me if I'm wrong. Higher # = bigger difficulty in obtaining that rank.

Hello

Yes 10 is the best you can get as far as PR.

The pagerank scale is exponential or logathrimic depending on which you plot on which axis.

In short, its roughly 5x harder to get a 2 than a 1, 25x harder to get a 3, 125x harder to get a 4, 600x harder to get a 5, 3000x harder to get a 6, 15000x harder to get a 7, 75000x harder to get an 8, 375000x harder to get a 9, and 1875000x harder to get a 10.

The graph you're looking at plots keyword popularity against keyword ranking difficulty (represented by the PR of the top ranked site). The idea is to help you gauge the path of least resistance (if you can find a very popular word without any existing competition on it you should optimize for that word).

Thanks a whole lot, I found this http://www.websitepublisher.net/article/seo_checklist/ extremely helpful.

p.s. what does "backward links" mean?

links pointing to one page from another page. Also called "incoming links".

"To find out who links to the #1 site search on Google for your desired keywords and then using the toolbar check the backward links of the first site that comes up"

Is this the browser or Google toolbar? I can't find this "check backward link" feature on neither...

btw, I'm using IE7 could this be the problem?

ITs the page info button, (a blue circle with an I in it). You might need to turn it on in your toolbar options as it is no longer on by default.
