People often trick google by doing affiliate links like this:

http://www.ebey.com (I just made that one up)

Sometimes they get the NO.1 position above the real site, so they make loads off people who are searching for that company/host/website.

S2kinteg, no you're right. There are a lot of corporate sites in the top slots.

I just sent the following to Google and also posted it on several forums - revolt!-

I am temporarily suspending my ad and encouraging others to do so until such time as your current cache and/or algorithm is changed. It is the opinion of many of us "smaller" folks that all of us have been bumped by either commercial/corporate sites or sites that are only marginally related to the keyword phrases are typed in with your current cache. Most of us worked long and hard on our websites to incorporate the backward links and specific textual suggestions of Google for good placement on our keyword phrases. If the current cache is indeed a reflection of some new standing policy at Google I would suggest that it is misguided and that you will lose market share as quickly as you once gained it.

Or use some kind of google logging program... I use Googlestats and I'm quite satisfied with it... :)

Yeah. Just look at the browser section in your normal stats program and it will show googlebot. No need to use anything else.
