I'm kinda curious to know..

How did you 1600+ webmasters and developers come across this forum, and what made you want to join?

I found it through Chris promoting his guide to creating a website.

I was just reading one of Chris' posts, and really enjoyed it. So I followed his link and so joined up to WSP

Someone I really dislike said this place was crap so I thought I'd check it out just to spite him.

i trickled over here from SPF as well from Chris's sig. I'm one of those forum lurker types that hated like i felt like i was being blasted and/or ignored anytime i posted over there (was under a diff nick). I found it intimidating posting over there from the negativity i'd experienced from posts asking for help.

Same here, sitepoint sig

I PM'd him about something through SP, he came back with this URL. That was a few days before the site 'officially' launched, I think :)

It's not a particularly good thing that nobody has admitted to coming here other than from SPF.

Sitepoint sig/MarkB mention - I think also a google link at on point regarding VBulletin.

It's pretty crazy that SPF gave WP what seems to be the majority of it's member base.

One thing I've found from my own forums is that your best audience is current forum users. For a novice internet user who has never used a message board before vB is foreign territory. It might also explain why even the most liberal forums (in reference to rules, not politics) expressly forbid linking to related forums.

It's not a particularly good thing that nobody has admitted to coming here other than from SPF.Perhaps not traffic-wise, but for the overall knowledge level it's good. I enjoy not having to explain that clicking on your Google ads 300 times a day isn't the proper way to try and make money on a daily basis.

Another one from SP. I enjoy the fact that I can read 99% of the new posts, simply because there is less of them. :)

How did you 1600+ webmasters and developers come across this forum, and what made you want to join?

Basicly, because of you Jon!

Well, I read all your threads on Sitepoint with great interest. That's why I am lately also more active here hahaha...!

To be more honest: I found this forum by placing thread on Sitepoint asking for well known, big forums, etc. That gave me a list of forums which I joined, including Website Publisher Forums, in order for me to get always answers to my questions I might have!

I think the concept of forums being out there is "amazing", always people helping out others without asking something in return! That's the GREAT thing about forums.

I found it through a guy's recommender, "$ 1000 per day."

I found it about 2 years ago on google when I was just starting to get into websites. I think there were something like 495 members when I joined.

So we're pretty much all current and/or former SPF users?

I went to sitepoint after hearing about it on here but I always liked here better. Sitepoint seemed too crowded or something. Your questions would sometimes get answered quicker at Sitepoint but that was about the only thing that I liked better about it.

I am not 100% sure. I think I found it within Google though and I then joined it because it was active and also was on the same topic as what I am interested in.
