Ever wonder how much money Mozilla foundation takes in from the embeded search option in Firefox's toolbar? Well its in the millions, which helps provide a nice ward chest for browser browser development and marketing.

Money is one of the last things we worry about

Thats a nice position to be in.

I bet the deal is worth every dollar, and then some, to Google in terms of the default searches they get

Not a bad way to make a few extra bucks.

Sounds like a win/win situation.

Jeez, why don't we just get this over with. Google should just rebrand and take over development of Mozilla.

Well since the Firefox browser is in reality the Google browser it makes a bit of sense that Google has supported them financially!

Firefox is not a Google product, it's an open source product developed in the public and not by Google.

Why does the Mozilla Foundation get all the money if it is developed by the public?

It is not developed by the public, it happens to be open source and they have developers in house that code it, they also have volunteers that help out the in house coders and contribute to the project! :eek2:

There are 3rd party developers that create plug in's and contribute to the code base too!

Also, Google is starting to get overextended.

There. I said it.

My only question is to where those millions are going, when a good number of the contributions are given freely...

That's an issue with big open source projects, they are about the money.

They have their main developers to pay, those guys don't work for free and it takes a lot of money to keep an organization going!
