I was thinking of putting on gel, but my parents along with my friends say that you can go bald with gel. Is that true? Also are there any alternatives to styling you hair. I tried water.

Your mother's male ancestors make you bald.

Indeed, baldness is mostly caused by genetics.

Using hair gel making you bald? That's rediculous. It doesn't even make sense.
Seriously consider this: how could it?

eh, hopefully by that time it won't matter. Hair growing technology will probably improve over the next 30 years dont ya think?

Probably. But I'll probably start shaving my head when I get what's a recognizable "spot".

I may get lucky with my genes tho. I think I have non-bald as heterozygous in both my parents, or homozygous non-recessive from one and heterozygous in the other.
This is assuming it's the recessive gene.

I think modern hair gel will be safe. Perhaps the old stuff had that chemical in that was used for hair removal.

Brylcream all the way :)

Wax is quite good as well, but makes your hair a bit scummy.

I just use mousse whenever I do anything with my hair. Its quick and I doubt it can make you go bald. Though I doubt gel would either. Hats were one thing I always wondered about though.

Why would any of these things (besides the genetics stuff) make you go bald?
Think about it!

Well, a hat can trap in all the dirt and oils and that can't be good for your hair, I dont know though. Any of the other things don't seem like they would have an effect. Oh, and my grandma's dad had a thick head of hair until he died and my dad is bald, so it can't just be your mother's father that you get the gene from. I wish it was because my grandpa on my mom's side isn't bald but my hair is thin like my dads and I think I'll be thinning out soon, thank god for rogane.

my friend Ben, he uses 5-7 bottles of hair gel every quarter, his hair stick up like echidna, but he's not bald. Your parents just don't want you to put chemicals in your hair. My mum's been telling me that dying your hair can cause cancer, im still waiting for that to happen, I've been dying my hair since i cannot remember

Tell her to stop dying her hair with acid.
The only way you'd get cancer from dying your hair, is if your hair dye consistently caused damage to your skin cells.

I love how people think they won't get skin cancer if they go to tanning salons instead of sun bathing... it's kinda funny.

I find the number of grey hairs I have is directly related to my current workload :)

If you believed everything you read or hear, then EVERYTHING can cause cancer.
