How to use Alexa.com in a proper way in your website promotion??

Is it so popular? So helpful? Do I need to take some action to get a higher points there or it’s indexes are objective?

How do they form “Related links for” section?

Is it important that lots of rival web sites are matched there?

What should I do to be placed in more “Related links for” sections?

Only webmasters are interested in Alexa rating really, plus only a certain biased subset of users have the alexa toolbar which records what sites people look at, which gives very biased results.

As Emerald says, what alexa.com says doesnt make any difference at all.

Ok, I see it doesn't matter, but how can I use it to my benefit?

Alexa provides some useful information about website rankings, is it all? Looks quite good, how can it be so useless? NO I think I don't know smth.

you can use it to help you look for link exchanges i guess... you can see who gets a similar amount of traffic to your own site... although everyone says that those stats are extremely inaccurate. alexa just isn't all that useful of a website (to website publishers at least)

The problem is that it can only base its 'stats' on the activities of people who have the toolbar.

You could use it to compare your site to competitors, but it probably makes a big difference whether the webmaster of the site has the alexa bar installed.

There is a directory posted on WSP here (http://www.websitepublisher.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3057&highlight=directory+submit) that uses Alexa data and screen shots to good effect (IMO)

I also remember hearing about people putting a javascript refresh thing on their page, then leaving it open 24hrs/day with the alexa bar installed. So alexa is not only biased, but also easy to tamper with.

Wow, that really is easy to tamper with. And not even based on uniques :P

I think alexa rating is very misleading.

I think alexa rating is very misleading.

Unless you are ranked very low ("high popularity") alexa can be manipulated easily/
