View Full Version : Hiding copyright info via php to deter removal

I need some advice on how to insert a copyright info on the footer so that other webmasters would not remove the copyright info at a later time.
In order to do this, you would need to hide the code using php, I think.

A perfect example is Invision Board pages. Webmasters can not remove their copyright footer (unless you pay a hefty fee) and I like to do something similar to that effect.

Any idea on how to approach this little project? Thank you in advance.

There is no way to stop the copyright text from being removed.

If you're talking about a server side application, the only option is to compile it. Zend offers a php compiler -- its very expensive.

IF you're talking a normal webpage, like Andy says, you can't stop that.

If your visitors can see it, chances are that someone can steal it without much effort.
The same deal as with images.

I agree with the rest, you can't stop it.

How big of a problem is this? I have a lengthy technical article on my site that I offer for free as both an incentive to visit (the business aspect) and as information for the casual surfer who wouldn't buy from the site anyway but would benefit from the data (the public service aspect). Should I be worried that someone will repost the information on another site in violation of the copyright notice? If I were to find such an internet culprit could I do anything about it? As a first-time website publisher I'm trying to get a grip on how serious this problem is and whether I should be concerned.

If they live in a civilized country (or rather, if they host in one) you can usually do something about it. But if they're chinese/indian/etc you may have a hard time.

There are a few threads on here were finding copyright violations and getting them removed has been discussed. At the very least, if you can't get the host to get rid of the site, you can have it removed from Google.
