A listing in the Yahoo directory can provided hundreds of uniques a day, so its with some suprise that I realized I hadn't noticed a recent change.

Now, instead of listing sites alphabetically, Yahoo lists them by default by popularity. Also the results are paginated, with 40 listings per page. This means that if you're at the bottom you're going to end up getting both less PR and less traffic than you used to get from these links.

Also, since the sites listed first should tend to maintain their popularity, once you get on the first page or to the top you shouldn't have to worry about dropping that much.

But, if you submitted today, how would you get to the front page?

Also, I didn't think the Yahoo directory parses PR anymore?

Just because it uses redirects doesn't mean it doesn't pass PR, or were you referring to something else?

Maybe ozgression was talking about YahooRank or whatever it's called.

I have a site listed on the bottom here: http://dir.yahoo.com/business_and_economy/shopping_and_services/health/fitness/software/

and my site outranks the other ones. I am not sure sites are ordered by popularity.

Does it outrank the others by clicks/traffic, or PR/SERPS?

I am higher in the SERPs

Well you must not get as many clicks.

Would you say it's worth submitting to Yahoo now?

Would you say it's worth submitting to Yahoo now? I dunno. I paid $299 but I still can't see a real benefit. So far, I estimate I get about 50 visitors per month from the dir. SERPs haven't still improved. I need 1 sale in 2 months to cover the costs. I guess it will be worth the price for this particular site.

For a category with less than 40 listings its worth it -- otherwise I'd have to question it.

Oh, OK. I assumed they introduced the redirects to stop PR leakage.

They've always used redirects in the directory.

That said, they may have changed the type of redirect used.

I've never actually seen Yahoo Dir links appear in google backlinks.

I agree with Chris, unless your chosen category has less then 40 links in it, it's useless. The default sorting order is by "popularity" so I'm presuming the rich will get richer, right? (your new listing will all the way down the line, so fewer people will see it, that means fewer clicks, that means you stuck there!)

Yahoo does count clicks on normal SERPs too. So you can get up into the popularity listings by ranking well in the normal serps.

The category where my site is listed is currently sorted alphabetically.

Well, they were sorted alphabetically last time I checked. Now, they ain't and my site is 3rd (before that it was once last). Go figure.
