I'm planning to write a series of guides for my site. I see this as also being a good op to increase my keyword density. For examle, say my target keyword is "DIY" :

DIY Guide Part 1 - How to bash a wall down.
DIY Guide Part 2 - How to reconstruct it.
DIY Guide Part 3 - Painting a door.
DIY Guide Part 4 - Stripping paint
DIY Guide Part 5 - Stuff it, it's too hard!

This is just an example, but I do plan to have 5 parts to my guide. I think it's valid, but would the search engines consider 5 repetitions like this spam and would I get penalized for it?

You mean 5 repetitions of the words "Diy Guide?"

Not at all.

Yep, that's what I meant. I didn't think it would be classed as spam, but I just wanted to check as I'm putting a fair bit of work into this site. It's also in a competative subject area, so if I do ever get #1 I would imagine the other sites will take anything they can get to bash me back down.

You never know now with google...

Remember to use <h1> tags for your keywords, they help a lot.
