I made a website with microsoft publisher but i cant get it on to the net.

On my website i have 3 diffrent pages, i can get a single page up at a time but when i click on a link for the other page it wont load up.
so i set up 3 free webs accounts hoping i could get the 3 urls and put them together on one site but i cant find a way of doing it.

http://www.freewebs.com/fanzone11/

http://www.freewebs.com/fanzone13/

http://www.freewebs.com/fanzone14/

Is there any way i can get the home page to link the 2 sub pages?
say i wanted to go on football news from the home page would there be any way of clicking on football news to bring it up?
when you click on football news or fanzone news a page comes up saying free webs page not found :(

Spend a few dollars a month and get an actual host.

Very much agreed.

It's only a few bucks a month for something that'll probably suit your needs a lot better than freewebs.com

Congratulations coolcat for a first effort it looks very good. Well done.

Your issues might relate to incorrect addresses in the links to the other pages.

If this is the case you need to ensure that the links in your web pages correlate to the addresses on your website.

eg: if I go to http://www.freewebs.com/fanzone11/ and position the mouse pointer on the link to Fanzone News the address bar at the bottom of the page indicates that it is pointing at index_files/Page314.htm.

I would suggest you need to firstly save the three pages with for example the following names.

Home page - "index.htm"
Fanzone News - "fanzone_news.htm"
Football News - "football_news.htm"

Then in each of those pages you need to make sure all links correlate with those pages. In Publisher edit the links to include the full url ie: http://www. freewebs.com/fanzone11/fanzone_news.htm for the Fanzone News page and so on for the other pages.

Then up load those files to your free web.

Hope this helps.

MarkB have you got any space left for coolcat?

Hi cool cat,

I'm also a newbee.....but I use the following:

www.namecheap.com for buying domains.....
and
www.peoplehost.com for hosting at $3.95 / month
or
www.phpwebhosting.com for hosting at $9.95 / month, (this one has a more reliable e-mail service if your using that)

Unfortunatly, can't really help you with frontpage. I too have always found it really hard to use, I tend just to code the html myself.

With regards to domains, that is correct you cannot have a ' in the domain, most people would just miss this out.

You can PM me if you would like further help

Good luck,

cat :)

thanks top cat, i`ll check out the paid domains and web hosting sites

heres a link that works on my pc i dont know if it will work on everyones

if the site does come up can somebody tell me what i have to do or how i can rename the page on free webs i have tried changing the names of the redirected links to index_314/news or what ever it was but i messed it up and now fanzone 11 doesnt work :( but i still have fanzone 12 and 14 :).

when you put the mouse pointer on index or football news it says the site its going to redirect to is index_314 or something now i have worked out a way of changing the exstention to freewebs.com/fanzone14/index_145 or what ever it is but it says i cant put in /`s so i need to change the name of the site from my pc so its not called indext_254/ what ever instead call it something like news.htm but i cant do that :(

coolcat the link (C:\Documents ... etc) to your hard drive won't work because it is ... on your hard drive and not the web.

Go into Publisher and open your home page file and save it as index.htm (if you haven't already done so).

Then still in Publisher go to the link in this page for Fanzone News and edit it to the following:

http://www.freewebs.com/fanzone14/fanzonenews.htm

Save this file (index.htm).

Open up (still in Publisher) the Fanzone News page. Save it as fanzonenews.htm.

Now you need to upload these two files to your free web directory (no 14).

You should now have two files in that directory (index.htm and fanzonenews.htm).

Enter the following into your web browser:

http://www.freewebs.com/fanzone14/index.htm

On this page the link to Fanzone News should now work.

Fingers crossed.

If it does follow the above instructions and change all the links in all three of your pages and up load them to your free webs directory.

You might want to have a look at the links to "Design Our New Logo" at the bottom of your page to see how the syntax is meant to be set out.

In a nutshell you need three pages in your directory and the links need to correctly point to them.
