Random Links = Google Ban?

I have seen evidence on the Internet that sites with many links, made through link exchanges, banned. Is it because of the Random linking or is it because of other reasons?

Please enlighten me.

I doubt that alone will get you banned. However, if the linking structure between sites suggested a means to manipulate the SERPs, it could be cause for them to be banned. It's a very grey area and I would suspect that link exchanges, even large ones, aren't enough to get you banned.

I also think less sites are outright banned from the Search Engines then most people think. They'll drop them in the SERPs through an algorithym change (and hopefully others like them, before they ban them. I would think only a flagrant violation (like hidden text or cloaking) would result in a ban.

If this were true there would be an awful lot of honest, reputable sites getting banned. Where is the evidence you have seen?

There's no evidence to support this. And I think there's no logic in doing so.

The site with most reciprocal links on the net is probably DMOZ. Give them a ban :)

Given the 'evidence', you could also 'conclude' that being on here will get you banned.

I dont think you really have conclusive evidence that reciprocal links implies banning - its just another myth in the SEO world.
