How do people make money with email marketing? email affiliates, I know that azoogle pays but not sure how much.

email marketing as in spam or opt-in lists? Usually it works pretty much like an affiliate program. This way the companies aren't doing the spamming themselves but they are making sales from a third party doing it.

You should be doing opt in if you want to steer clear of legal problems.

Opt-in is where you sign up for things. Often people don't sign themselves up for spam, so it's usually reserved for newsletters, etc.

With laws such as CAN-SPAM in effect now you have to be very careful with bulk e-mailing.

And you also need to watch out for people easily aggrivated and in a "hacky" mood.

Even if you are running an opt-in list some morons are going to get pissed off. Just make sure that all your bases are covered legally and with your host. Having your site getting placed on a spam blacklist can be very very bad.

Opt-in e-mail is extremely useful. If I recall correctly a while ago on an episode of the Apprentice one of the challenges was to see which team could sell the most bridal dresses. One team handed out flyers by the subway while another paid a bridal website a few thousand to do a bulk e-mailing to people in their opt-in list. Guess which team won -- by a large margin.

On another webmaster board I read someone posted a few voice mail messages he's recieved. Don't be too worried even if you get death threats. In fact, a year or two ago someone went to jail for sending death threats to a spammer. No one likes spam but its no excuse for threatening to kill someone or "rape their family" (quote from one of the voice mail messages.) In any type of business or public office you'll find out that there are a lot of people who are a little bit nuts and have a lot of time on their hands. I've heard of people who have gotten threatened to be sued once a week for years and nothing has even materialised yet.

Once again just make sure, especially if you are in the US, that you aren't breaking any laws.

See this is what Im thinking I want an email signup or opt-in, when people signup and they revieve free prodocts, ie ebooks. How can I advrtise or make money through this.

Could always have it double opt-in.
Also, make sure to have an unsubscribe thing very very clear and visible.

Opt doesn't make money.
Double opt in is requiring people to say not once, but twice, that they did in fact subscribe to whatever it is.

You can make money through ads in newsletters or through spam. The first is the best method. And everyone'll hate you for #2.
