I used to use CuteFTP. It did the trick for me until I started having problems with a certain FTP server. I now use WS-FTP. I'm sure there are better / cheaper alternatives out there, but I'm not too picky. I found that WS-FTP does the job for me. It also supports SFTP/SSH, which I like.

Used to use FTP Commander, now use BulletProof FTP mostly. I only use it to transfer files after I have finished a site though, so fairly basic stuff.

Filezilla (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=21558), it's one of the best and free.

LeapFTP. Simple and complete. I used to use CuteFTP years ago. As soon as I saw LeapFTP I never went back.

Check out CoreFTP. I used to use CuteFTP, but it kept showing up in my spyware scans.. CoreFTP definately gets the job done.

Yeah I'd agree, after going through a number of apps, filezilla is one of the best :)

I don't know but you could have a look at the filezilla documentation (http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/documentation/).

I like SmartFTP. While, it has this obtrusive, annoying popup at Start up, it's proven to be reliable, stable and easy to use for me. Thus, I now stick with it, and recommend it whole heartedly.

I'm happy with FTP Voyager - you can make ssl connection or use proxy

I'll vote for filezilla as well.

Yet to encounter the first problem and the best of it all : it's free.
