The site has definatly been banned by google.

It gets about 50 visits a day.

I might keep it, see what happens, but if anyone does want it, I might sell it.

Apart from the fact it was in google before for a week when I launched it and hasn't been in since, and that was 5 months ago or so.

I doubt it was banned for wikipedia content. Otherwise tons of other sites would have been too and that's just not the case. A pentalty for duplicate content, maybe. But not banned.

Then why not ban AWS sites? Or literature, for that matter? There is no logical reason to ban wikipedia content. All these things are duplicate, which would be the most likely choice. No, they don't ban for duplicate content UNLESS you did so to trick the system. Bans are usually done because you did something shady (on purpose or not) to manipulate your rankings. There are TONS of wikipedia content sites, but there are thousands upon thousands using AWS. I would be very shocked to find they banned for this reason.

I have a camera site that uses AWS and it has been banned. It used to have a pr4 and was indexed in google and slowly all traces of it were removed. Is there any way we can ask google why the site is banned?

Are you sure it's banned? Do you get visits from the GoogleBot?

I had a site that lost it's PR, but it wasnt banned, it still is in Google and gets visits from the GoogleBot etc...

This is weird. I guess I am back in the google after some 5 months. I still don't have a pr but I have some 3 pages indexed in google. I had given up on this site but I will pay more attention to it now. I had lost hope and I was going to just let this domain drop but it has a link back from a pr5 site.

Definatly banned. I had it in my sig for months and months and I've still got it linked to from PR6 pages, but google hasn't got a cache or anything of it.

Did a google for a chunk of text from your site:

http://www.google.com/search?q=%22The+Three+August+Ones,+sometimes+known +as+the+Three+Sovereigns%22&num=100&hl=en&lr=lang_en&filter=0

Seems like there are at least 10 sites with copies of the Wiki that arent banned...

I run several that are not banned. Nintendo runs several that are not banned. I'm not doubting that Ancient-China.net is banned, it's just not the Wiki content that got it banned.

That is all I can think that could have got it banned though.

There was no cloaking, SEO was to a minimum (just title attributes, h1 tag on each page and link text instead of image.

Really the only thing that it could have been banned for is duplicate content.
