Could you even imagine owning houses like these Most Expesnive Homes In America (http://www.forbes.com/home/realestate/2004/10/14/cx_bs_1015home.html)... they are quite large!

The thing is, I wouldn't want to live in some of those homes. A lot of them look like hotels, and not houses.

I agree with Mike. Although a castle in the mountains would be nice... Castle in it's traditional meaning, a stone built thing that looks authentic (and even could be) with swords on the walls...

And a catapult in the back yard to fling pumpkins at the neighbors.

The biggest house I would want to live in would be 10 000 sqarefeet max. It greets creepy after that.

thebillionaire... are you really a billionaire?

it matters how many people live in it... I know this family... the father has a medical empire and the wife has a law firm and they have this HUGE house, perhaps 15,000 square feet, but there are over 20 people living in the house. They are crazy rich though.

I just want a small house by the beach in South Carolina. On a barrier island.

i would take the island with a simple vila over a 43,000sq ft piece of crap any day of the week. SHAQ oNEAL has a HUGE house, something like 100,000 square feet. Its ridiculous.

Whilst those do look nice, I wouldn't want to live in one. However I wouldn't mind something bigger than what I am in at the moment. As my grandad used to say, you can only sleep/live in one room at a time. ;)

"As my grandad used to say, you can only sleep/live in one room at a time." Yea, but the problem now is that people just want to showoff. For example, look at watches a $1 watch can tell time just as well as a $5000 Rolex, but people still buy the watches to showoff.

I think it's more about feeling good with yourself than showing off...

I'd live in a huge house if someone else did the vacuuming :P

I think my ideal home would be one on a large property, but which fronted onto the coast; one side would have an open verandah looking out over the sea, t'other one overlooking the rolling hills of the property. And either end with machine gun turrets :p

That is my dream home :) It's amazing. Underwater music system for the pool, secret pivoting book cases in the library etc etc.

Oh and I forgot to mention, guests have to wear electronic pins so that the computers know where they are!

Mike - Those book cases sound good.

Chris - And a renaissance army.

For the castles I'm thinking of something like this: http://www.artist.omsk.ru/castles.jpg but with a mote instead of the rocks... The motes can also serve as a heating swimming pools...

Mr. Gates has quite a nice estate.

A scary one too, I can get quite some excercise going to the kitchen, or more walking in the kitchen.

The total price isn't that much onlt $53,392,200, but the taxes on the other hand $620,183 in the year of 1997, its probably like $100 000 more.

If this was my house I would invite all my friends and have a major paintball war; that would be amazing.

All these cheap skates with one house, I dont know....

I would have a nice chalet in a ski resort, a couple of nice mansions near some good surf, a main house, and a few houses/apartments in places like Monaco, Bel Air, London, NY etc

And a private jet to get around to each...

Mind you, I expect a few of the owners of the houses mentioned do have the above :)

I wouldn't ever really want any more than a nice 300k or 500k house

moonshield
10-25-2004, 02:01 PM
how nice is a 300k house in Canada?

Down where I live 300k is all right but you have to go 500k+ to live well.

thebillionaire
10-25-2004, 02:19 PM
depends on the city, but a 400k house is really big in the suburbs.

i see, I used to live in Michigan (Lansing, Grand Rapids, Filint), I know how the housing is more affordable there then it is in the city here. The housing is much nicer here though.

I don't suppose any of you ever watch "Designed to Sell" its on HGTV or TLC or one of those cable channels.

Repeatedly I've seen small, one story, sub-1000 square foot homes in pretty poor condition on there. As a price goal they say "Similar homes in this are have gone for 500-700k" I'm thinking, in what? Lira? No way is a small house on a small lot going to go for so much, and no way can these people living in there afford to pay that large of a mortgage. Maybe if it was in Aspen or something, but if so the owners wouldn't be the bumpkins that they are.

Buy land about 50 miles from a massive city... You can get 5000 sq ft plot in forest on a road with water, gas and electric in a gated community for under $10k, their was a thread about it on humorweb.net webmaster forums and quite a few of the people their bought plots and said they were very happy with them...

Blue Cat Buxton

thread about it on humorweb.net

was it a joke perhaps?

(You certainly couldn't do anything like that in the UK anyway)
