It depends. CTR on what? A banner? A Popup? A textlink? Under what topic?

1% is a good minimum to expect (forums tend to be lower though).

my ctr is actually ~0.1% - but i put my ads on the bottom of the page so that they don't interfere with users (it is a forum with a close-knit community, not SE traffic which i could throw to advertisers).

The average CTR for text ads on my sites is about 1%. However, one site has over a 4% CTR.

I'd agree that a 2%+ clickthrough using Adsense is good. I'm currently languishing around the .7-.9% mark.

Its obviously variable depending upon the type of site and also what Google serves up any given day.

i dont even come close to 2%, much less 4%... any tips on PLACEMENT of your google ads? Perhaps that is my problem.

Use the square Adsense ads, mixed in with content. They get a far better clickthrough rate than the leaderboards/banners/skyscrapers.

One of my sites with a really well-placed adsense text double ad averaged 4.6% in september, and 3% so far for October. There is also a really wide range of payments being made so the CTR is not as important as the actual commission paid for each click because this seems to vary by more than 100% on any given day.

www.substancetreatment.com gets around 2.6%.
