Hello,

I just saw that your website online-literature.com is about to expire.
I was interested in buying your url. I want to offer you $50.00 for buying it.
Can you please contact me at this email address geturls@yahoo.com so that we can talk further on this topic.

Thank you,
Julia Smith

You think I should do it? I really could use that $50.

Chris - hold onto it. It could turn into a nice, profitable site if you spend some time with it.

$50 ?!?!?!? It can't be worth anywhere near that much! It's got a hyphen in it! ;)

I got a mail just like it. I responded. :p It's apparently legit, I still have the $$ (rich man now :p)

Here's what happened (I also posted this on slackersguild.com):

"I actually got the exact same mail last week. One of my domain names
was about to expire and I had no intention of renewing it (some
obscure dutch domain name no one ever visited).

So I figured, what the hell, I'll reply, I've got nothing to lose.
"She" asked how I wanted to receive the payment (cheque or paypal) and
how I would want to handle the domain handover. I gave them my paypal
email address and told'm I needed the new WHOIS info, after which I'd
send her the login and password of my registrar account. Sure enough,
next day, I had the $50 on my Paypal account.

I still thought it was a scam (e-mail address "geturls@yahoo.com" ??)
but so far they haven't withdrawn/revoked the payment. The domain has
been handed over and its registrar has changed to
http://www.bulkregister.com/. The Paypal transfer was from "Cyber
Spectrum Marketing".

This has "scam!!" all over it, and what the hell they want to do with
my pretty much useless domain name (which was linked to a free home
page and had no email addresses attached to it), I have no idea.
Perhaps they used a fraudulent credit-card number and the $50 will be
revoked soon.

Ares"

The woes of paypal. For digital things like this its better to accept checks/money orders or at the least use an escrow service.

Yep, sure, I agree too. I looked into it (read a lot of Paypal domain scam stories) but figured it wasn't worth the trouble for only 50 bucks. Cashing in US checks here in Europe carries a pretty hefty bank-commission too if I recall correctly.

They still haven't recalled the payment btw, seems to be 'legit'.

That's a nice one from Mrs. Smith :-))

I'd tell her that I only accept Ukrainian Hrivnas :))
