Meta tags are snippets of text that describe a page’s content; the meta tags don’t appear on the page itself, but only in the page’s code. We all know tags from blog culture, and meta tags are more or less the same thing, little content descriptors that help tell search engines what a web page is about.

Title tags and meta descriptions are bits of HTML code in the header of a web page. They help search engines understand the content on a page. A page's title tag and meta description are usually shown whenever that page appears in search engine results.

A meta tag is a tag (that is, a coding statement) in the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) that describes some aspect of the contents of a Web page. There are many meta tags and html-tags and obviously they don't all influence the search result.

Meta tags are snippets of text that describe a page’s content; the meta tags don’t appear on the page itself, but only in the page’s code.

1. Meta Keywords Attribute - A series of keywords you deem relevant to the page in question.
2. Title Tag - This is the text you'll see at the top of your browser. Search engines view this text as the "title" of your page.
3. Meta Description Attribute - A brief description of the page.
4. Meta Robots Attribute - An indication to search engine crawlers (robots or "bots") as to what they should do with the page.

Meta tags are the html code of the web page. Google uses these meta tags for indexing web pages.
