Just thought I'd let you know that DomainSite.com is offering free .info registrations for a limited time (max 25 .info's per customer).

See: https://www.domainsite.com/special.php

PS. I have no relationship with this company. I found this offer on another forum.

Nice :) Just got 11 domains - a few AWS possibilities and a few finance guides.

Edit: Am having trouble changing the nameservers... seems you need to register them or something??

Which nameservers are you using? I just get:

ERROR:
The name server ns1.sublime-creation.com is not a valid name server registered with the registry.

If the domain name is locked, it will need to be unlocked before name servers can be edited.

Make sure 'use existing credit' is ticked, paypal is unticked, and the bottom agreement thing is ticked, then should work.

It didn't. But I made a new account and it worked then.

Got some good ones... CheckPageRank.info LeavingNewYork.info (R.E.M.'s new single) AnimatedClipArt.info

Ah yeah, I suppose you can just open a new account when you run out of 25 domains. Must remember that, I have 1 left :)

incka

You could be sued for that. I would not do that. Get a family member to give you permission to use their name.

09-03-2004, 02:46 PM
Ah ok, not sure I'll need any more at the moment anyway, the last few were getting a bit silly :)

I actually found this offer on my own, as I'd been using Domainsite as my registrar. Yesterday I picked up a few nice ones, although I don't think they'd go for much undeveloped.

Yeah, you can't register more than 25 free .info's as they track IPs & whois records and will make people pay for any extra .info's they register.

It was down a lot last night, but kept popping back. Obviously the server has too many connections to it... Too many people getting free domains ;)

MarkB

Or else they've gone out of business :p

incka
09-04-2004, 04:42 AM
Unlikely. They said limited so that means they have calculated how many they can give away for free and it will stop doing it when they have given them away... They are going to get so many customers out of this...

ozgression
09-04-2004, 05:46 PM
Actually, when they say limited, they mean limited time, not that they can only "give away" a certain amount of domains (in total).

They are able to offer 25 free .info registrations to customers because the company that is responsible for the .info registery (Afilias) is offering this to ICANN accredited domain registrars.

All DomainSite.com is doing is passing on the freebies. There are two or three other registrars doing the same thing.

Others, like enom, are offering .info's for $3, whilst most are profiting the difference :)

Namesecure doesn't allow nameservers.

Domain site is not $0.99 instead of free.

Namesecure doesn't allow nameservers.

Domain site is not $0.99 instead of free.

They both allow nameservers, you just have to email them to register/recognise your nameserver (mine worked without having to do this).

DomainSite's free offer has ended (on the 9th I believe).

You can change the nameservers from the edit name server option

Yeah, but it says mine are not valid nameservers (at least on their system - every other registrar sees them fine)...

Oh, thzats a pain then. As you say not a great incentive to pay for hosting particularly if support wont get back to you. I guess by the down time when the offer went live that they have been a little inundated .

Emailed support@domainsite.com last nite and got a reply. For some reason though they needed my domain name?? So I emailed one back and said I would like to move future domain purchases here if I can sort out the nameservers. Hopefully they can sort it out.
