Following are some situations when WordPress is not recommended.

If the client is working on non-CMS based project.
For complex and innovative e-commerce sites.

sulbha could you expand upon that? i believe WordPress is also a nightmare when it comes to loading times and seo in general even with plugins specifically made for search engine optimisation the only thing you can do is go edit the php files directly the admin seems to override plugins. Also WordPress is know for security issues , in the past and now , because its open and runs the same general theme its easier for hackers to find ways in. Its popular among people with less experience in web design too also making it a target.

To my knowledge, If you want to develop a e-commerce site then WordPress is not suitable for you. The reason is, if you develop your site with WordPress, it will be your responsible to take care of everything. There will be a huge maintenance that you have to do, that leads to hiring someone to maintain you site. So, my suggestion is to use the best e-commerce platform, like shopify. Then you don't need to worry about maintenance & security of your site.

Although Wordpress is an easy, cheap, practical way of making websites, it also has a few disadvantages. These include :-
Template Design - The theme that you choose can put constraints on how the webpage appears.
Images - Word press only allows certain sizes of image.
Fonts - There are only a limited number available.
Security - Because Wordpress is so popular it has become a target for hackers. There are thousands of plugin for Wordpress and this can be a security issue.
