Well, I am a member of a certain unnamed car fourm and I had a link to my up and comming coupon site in my sig. I just got pmed by the admin with a message that goes a little something like this and I quote:

"Dude, lose the advertising stuff. I deleted it this time. Don't make me have to again. The spam I get in my inbox is enough. I don't want to have to put up with crap like that on my website."

I always thought it was safe to put a link in your sig.

Depends on the forum. WebmasterWorld for example is a large one that doesn't allow sigs at all.

Depends on the forum. WebmasterWorld for example is a large one that doesn't allow sigs at all.

Its the same on another popular developer forum except they garble (and ungarble via a robot blocked script) every URL posted and listed in sig's.

Although the reason they state is to do with not wanting to be associated with what a SE may consider a bad neighbourhood.
