I want to publish a lot of search engine papers and patents on my SEO site. However, I am concerned if there are any legal obstacles.
I have seen papers published all over the web. The US government patent site says nothing about copying content. It even warns against linking to patents (they have some bandwidth? server? problems). I guess I will save them some bandwidth if I publish content instead of linking to them :)
Does anyone know if it is OK to publish papers & patents on a web site?

Papers I wouldn't publish without permission.

Patents are a matter of public record though and I do not think there should be a problem with them.

if you see papers published all over the web, you're probably ok. patents are public info as stated above, it's only the actual patented item you can't copy.

Thank you very much for the responses. Maybe I'll start with the patents.
Do I have to contact the paper authors for permission? I'd have to contact Sergey Brin & Lary Page, Krishna Bharat etc. :) Some papers are authored by persons who no longer have anything in common.
