Hello, I was wondering if you guys might be able to help me out with something. Over the past 2 years, I've been slowly going blind in my right eye. Not blindness as in darkness, but blurryness. It's a problem that glasses or contacts can't fix either. I still have 20/20 vision in my left eye, but this my brain a bit of a mixed signal. And as a result, whenever I read or do something that requires fine eyesight, I get a headache, and my eyes start to hurt.

So my problem is, how do I continue publishing even though I can't really use the computer for more than an hour at a time? I was thinking of buying a high resultion projector so that reading and writing wouldn't be so hard since the picture would be massive. But I'm a bit stuck.

Thanks.

have you had an eye doctor check on it? what's wrong?

if it's from looking at a computer monitor too long, try something like this:

30 minutes computer
15 minute break
30 minutes computer
...

my eyesight is blurry because i read a lot (and use the computer), but glasses fix that:)

Go to see an opticians. You only get one pair of eyes, so treat them well. Asking on an internet forum for web developers is not gonna help at all - none of us are qualified in 'eyes'.

Getting some glasses/contact lenses could slow down or stop this loss of sight in your eye.

In addition to going to an eye doctor, there is one thing I do know.

CRTs cause more strain on the eyes than LCDs. So I would switch if you haven't already.

Otherwise, get yourself to a doctor.

I went to an optometrist before I moved to Japan, about 2 months ago. She did all kinds of tests on my eyes and told me that they are fine, that there wasn't a problem. See, the blurriness usually only occurs at night, or when I'm tired. So when I was there, she couldn't really help me with a eyeglass prescription because I was seeing well above average.

I really need to see an opthamologist though. I also have chronic sinusitis and severe allergies, so that doesn't help me eyes either. One of my Japanese friends in contacting a friend ofa friend who is a fairly well known eye doctor in Tokyo. So hopefully that will help.

Sounds like Age-related macular degeration to me, if it is it's got nothing to do with the computer, it's either a fragile blood vessel growing under your macular in your eye or some receptor cells breaking down. Get it sorted quickly, there is a formula of zinc and other things that can stop it advancing. That's if it is AMD.

Look at my new site: www.eye-disease.info (Not finished yet)

Thanks Incka, but I highly doubt that's the problem. From what I've read, I doesn't seem to fit my symptoms. Keep in mind too that like 99% of all eye problems have "Blurry vision" as a symptom. Hell, almost all medications list "blurry vision" as a side effect.

I took a look at this as well: http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/amsler-grid.htm

Everything seems normal, except for the fact that its a little weird to stare at for a long time. I think that goes for everyone though. I actually had double vision for about a year when I was 13, and I saw all kinds of eye doctors and neurologists, and none of them new what was causing the double vision. I think this may be a bit of a relapse. I don't know.

Nice site by the way.

An eye doctor told me that if you have sinusitis and it gets infected, it can actually expand to press on the eyes and/or the brain. Can be as serious as losing eyesight, brain damage, even death.

Sinusitis -is- an infection. It's an infection of the sinus which can include its surrounding tissue/bone. If a bad sinus infection is left untreated, you're just asking for trouble. Antibiotics, sinus irrigation, allergy medication, herbal therapy, acupuncture, vaporizors, and air purefiers are just some of the ways of treating an infection. If all else fails, you can have surgery to open up your sinus.

Well, if nothing else, try getting more sleep so you're tired less often :)

dont know if it will help turn down the gamma/brightness of the monitor but if you still wanna go on the computer alot try wearing an eye patch on your right eye.

Sinusitis simply means your sinuses are infected or inflamed.
