Midphase has a nice setup - 1200MB, 35 GB bandwidth, $7.50/month.

Have you two had good experiences with them? Much downtime etc?

Can't comment much on downtime with Midphase - just switched to them a few weeks ago.

Their customer service is extremely fast and helpful. Extremely fast setup as well.

Yeh, if they are reliable then I may move to them. Amazing price for so much space and bandwidth.

They're reliable, and super-fast on trouble tickets (during working hours when I contacted them).

They just added a new package for multiple-domain accounts-

Did anyone switch to midphase then? They "look" pretty good, but I'd be interested to know if any switched and likes them.

... very tempted as my current host seems slow.

Unfortunately, they don't offer SSH or any form of command line access. Pretty lame really.

I use selectedhosting.com

54 bucks a year with php, cgi, and excellent support. I only get 50 mbs of space but with unlimited [yeah right] bandwidth.

I'm going to check out your suggestions and possibly switch.

thanks

I read that google will worse page rank to sites hosted on virtual servers.

Any thoughts on this? If I host 3 domain names at midphase and create three different sites will I be penalized by google?

Perhaps I don't understand virtual hosting

Virtual hosting has absolutely no impact on your Google rankings.

I will no longer make any reference to the 'google hack' book. Thanks for the info in this thread and the other.

So if I have three separate domain names I can host them all on the same account at say midphase and promote them as seperate entities, each having a unique domain name.

seems like it's a better idea to have more than one site working for you.

Well, sometimes hosts that allow you to host more than one domain on a single account use redirects, and those aren't always good.

Virtual hosting refers to hosting more than one site on a single server or on a single ip address. Its different from hosing more than one site on a single virtual hosting account.

IF they aren't using any redirects though, you'll be fine.

It's not always worth setting up two sites, when sometimes just one would be fine. Make sure you know the reason why you're setting up two or more sites before you do it.

A lot of webhosts don't offer SSH access. Its too much of a security risk.

Yeah, I spent ages hunting for a good host that would allow it. Eventually I found one.

In my opinion, the best hosting comparison site is the forums at webhostingtalk.com . Just do a searches on your top few choices and see what people have to say about them.

Many hosing comparison sites have reviews that can be bought and are not objective.

Yeah, I used webhostingtalk.com to find my current host (LightningServers) and I'm glad I did :)
