To improve Google SE rank and possibly increase future PR, do you recommend having other sites link to your site.com (site.com/index.php) or to site.com/forums/

Either way, I would still prefer a link to site.com as what if you decide to add content to the site in future and/or move the forum?

The site contains articles and a gallery but I am more concerned with the forum. I decided to promote and link to the forum.
