http://www.pagerank.net/meta-tag-generator/

At that site pick an option for the robot. What’s a robot and what do the option mean. It also asks for the Generator, what’s that? and how many days should the search engine revisit this page, what should I put and how many keywords should I use (keywords and the things the search engine use to find your site right, so if your sites keyword is pizza, and if you have lots of visits your sites will be displayed right?)

A robot is like Google bot. The question is, what should "Search Engine Robots Do when they visit this page" Most of the time you'll want "index this page and follow links"

Generator is what what created this page. For example, I use homesite, so my generator would be Homesite. If you use dreamweaver, your Generator would be "DreamWeaver".

Hope that helps.

Why are they there? what do they do when following links?

I'll save you some work -- do not generate any meta tags. The robots meta tag is only needed if you're going to give it negative commands. The other meta tags aren't really needed, and they aren't worth being confused over (which you seem to be) so do not worry about them.

If I don’t have a metatag then how will search engine recognize my site under a keyword?

It reads the words on the page, and the link text used to link to it.
