View Full Version : Hostony seems very slow from UK

The domains I have on hostony (casino one) seem very slow from here in the UK. I.e. it takes 10-15 seconds for a page to load, whereas other sites in the US, e.g. here, take around 1 second.

Anyone else noticed this?

Anyone know any good UK based web hosts?

Took around 5 seconds to get onto your casino one - I'm on a normal connection as well.

I can never get onto Sean's sites that are hosted onto hostony.

All hostony sites launch instantly for me...

Loaded fast for me (on BT ADSL). Which ISP are you with?

512K ADSL with Zen - supposedly the fastest in the UK! All other sites load practically instantly, just my sites hosted at hostony.

Cheers for trying it though guys.

It could've been a routing problem. I know some people who just cannot hit my server at all, even though it's running fine...

Ah yeah, it does seem a lot quicker this morning.

Can anyone recommend a host based in the UK with similar options to hostony? This is for a new UK site I have which I hope could be quite popular.

My dads work PC can't access my server's SMTP although it can access POP3 & HTTP.

You allow SMTP connections to your server?!

How else can I send mail?

Via your ISP's SMTP. Leaving it open on your server can invite abuse...

A friend hosts with Easynet Ltd and has servers in the London Docklands. You may want to check them out.

r2, also try www.webhostingtalk.com - plenty of UK providers post their latest deals (and ongoing packages) in their Offers forum/s.

My ISP is BT Broadband. It doesn't even have user accounts. It's just activates your phone line for broadband and gives you a modem and a number to dial. No email, no webspace, no vilch...

I've got security features and a anti-spam thing installed on my smtp server.
