I noticed you didn't use H1 tags for your literature-network site. I didn't use them for my site before too.

Recently switched to using them (with some CSS beautification).

Then my Google ranking fell from first page to almost nowhere. But it could be due to many other factors.

But I was wondering, does H1 tags really help in optimizing the page for Google?

I like this site ... real cool :p

H tags in general help because search engines give the text inside more emphasis.

That is true for h1 or h2 tags. Because of the default sizes back some 3 or so years ago when I made my literature site I used h2 tags, but if I was redoing it now I'd probably use h1.

Using CSS to make it more 'presentable' shouldn't hurt right?
