In the huge thread about AWS (http://www.websitepublisher.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=824) on around the second page, people start talking about making an AWS site just to get thousands of pages of pages to boost pagerank.

Would this work? Wouldn't this be detected as duplicate content since thousands of other aws websites have the same content? Do you think aws sites contribute to PR?

It can work, but there are far easier ways to get PR.

Like making sites for categories with PR7 in dmoz that have less than 50 sites in them.

Sean- do you mean that the sites listed in DMOZ have PR7, or that the DMOZ category page has PR7?

I mean dmoz PR7 or dmoz PR8 categories. I'm making one at the moment (don't get worried, no one here has a site in the category)...

Chris, have your AWS sites been successful? (financially wise)

I've been thinking of starting one for a long time but weren't sure if it even makes any decent amount of money.
