I have built a website myself and need help with the optimising of it. The website is www.thecarpetcarenetwork.co.uk. Can anyone perhaps have a look at the site and pass on any usefull advise to help improve. I am self taught so don't really know the technical stuff and seem to be struggling with this site. The others I have built seem to be ok, but could be improved aswell. The other sites can be accessed from the site already mentioned. Any help would be very much appreciated. When using an online site checker it says everything is OK. But then on a differnet one it says different. Are these site checkers actually any good? I use this one http://www.rankingtoday.com/seo/site-checkup.php and this one http://www.creatingonline.com/site_promotion/website_checker.htm

You have used heading tags out of order to manipulate the style of your headings (h4). Use the proper heading tag order and if you don't like the style of the heading you can change it in your CSS (cascading stylesheet). Down at the bottom of the page you have used h2 tags to manipulate the style of the text. It would be better if you created a style specifically for this area instead.

Your links should include your domain name. e.g. http://www.thecarpetcarenetwork.co.uk/pagename.html The more links that look exactly the same pointing to a page the better. People who find your pages are going to use a link with your domain name.

There's a couple things to get you started.

Have you read Google's Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide (http://www.google.com/webmasters/docs/search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf) (opens in PDF)? It would give you some ideas for optimization. It of course is written bias to what Google wants, but it's a start.
