I'm surprised nobody else has posted about this yet. Yahoo has come up with something called WebRank which is supposed to be similar to PageRank.

Is this new?

Anyone have any comments?

You can check your WebRank at DigitalPoint.

Cool! I might try optomising my sites for yahoo instead of google. It gets almost as many searches and will have less competition of opto.

Indeed the thread on digitalpoint.com describes some very jumpy results.

I cannot see WR at home but can at work so itseems to be restricting either ISP or by Geo at the moment.

With Google since Florida, it sure is nice to have an alternative.

How do you know it gets a similar number of searches?

Yahoo Web Rank appears to be a popularity contest, not an analysis of your site as such ... according to yahoo!...

"The Yahoo! Web Rank feature of the Yahoo! Companion Toolbar works by collecting anonymous URL data about the page you are visiting. This anonymous URL data is sent to the Yahoo! Companion servers, and a Yahoo! Web Rank value is returned to the Yahoo! Companion Toolbar as one measurement of the popularity of the Web page or URL you are visiting.
You will see a small icon on your Yahoo! Companion Toolbar displaying the Web Rank value (on a scale of 1 to 10) of the site you are currently visiting. The Web Rank values are calculated using a sophisticated scoring algorithm that provides a measure of the popularity of the Web page or Web site that you are visiting. Yea it also says on the help pages for the yahoo toolbar thing that its in beta, but the beta version has been taken off now so those who dont have it cant get it. It does just look like a tracker of toolbar users activity.
