Good Script for a download site?

Can anyone recommend some good scripts that I could use to start a download website?

I really don't know, I've never ran such a site (nor would it be one I'd want to run)

You'd be best hiring a developer or doing it yourself because it can easily be done, but the open source scripts that are out there will most likely be old and not updated frequently. I have been able to find great developers on the website called elance.

I also was unable to find any scripts out there, but I am sure that they exist, yet I don't know what to search for.

By the way, most web hosts will hate you if you run a download-only site!
