Member login question????

I would like to make a site kinda like digg where you can upload stories and view other people's as well. I would want the people to have to become members and login in order to submit stories.
Also I already have a forum on my site and would want the membership to work with the forums I already have going so people wont have to sign up for the story part and again for the forums.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Do you use vbulletin or another forum software?

It is pretty easy to do this with vbulletin I know. Search vbulletin.org for "user login on non-vb page" or something similar.

I currently use phpbb for my forums. I really just don't know how to keep the two sections separated but share registration information.

There is a program and instructions how to create a sub-forum.
