Diffence between URLs with "www." and without "www."

I'm not sure if this is where I should be asking this but... I have a website where if you type www.name.com you get the proper information... but if you type name.com it brings up a week old version of the site. I'm really unsure of what is going on or how to correct it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There are posts in this forum explaining how to fix this with modrewrite. You can also tell Google with a sitemaps account how you'd like them to reference your site (with or without the www)
