Does Webposition Gold work? If so, should you try to match what the google averages are for your search term or should you pick the site that is ranked #1 for a specific keyword and try to match the statistics of that site? Also, does Google look more at say keyword prominence or weight or which stat in Webposition Gold is weighted the most? Thanks!

Ever since the creation of link popularity algorithms any program that claims to get you high ranks by analyzing the content of other pages has not performed well. Not just because on page content is now only part of the equation and so the software's recommendations will only get you so far. But also because the sites the software is examining may not be so well ranked because of their on page content, but rather because of off page factors.

What you should do is look at the sites ranked above
you and if they have higher PR work on getting more incoming links. If you have higher PR then work on getting more keywords in your content or in the anchor text of your incoming links.

Because frankly, with Google, what is going to make a serious difference on competitive phrases is going to be your incoming links, not your on page content. On page content is only going to get you so far. So you basically need to address whichever area of your site you're currently lacking in.

What Google likely uses is a logarithmic type curve where the higher your keyword density the less any additional density helps. Its a diminishing returns system in other words.
